Chosen For A Purpose, Inc. “The Lucille Hawkins Foundation” was founded by Carmalita L. Hawkins.  Adopted a few days after birth by Lucille and Cleveland Hawkins, Carmalita has firsthand knowledge of the importance of being placed in the right home with loving parents.  Lucille and Cleveland provided a safe haven for her, removing her from a house where drugs and alcohol played a vicious role.  Placed in a nurturing environment, Carmalita was taught the importance of an education and through her diligent efforts was given the opportunity to attend Law School.

As a proud mother of two and a graduate of Florida A & M University College of Law, it is Carmalita’s desire to give back to the community and to acknowledge the one who made it possible, Lucille Hawkins.

The love and dedication shown by Lucille Hawkins helped Carmalita realize that she was CHOSEN for a purpose and not unwanted, as she once believed.

The inspirational Lucille Hawkins adopted and raised three daughters as if they were her children from birth.  She is not only dedicated to her immediate family, but to her church family, St. Mary Primitive Baptist Church #2. Her dedication to being a loving and caring person extends past her family and church into the community.  She nurtured and cared for the elderly even when her health was waning. Purchasing school supplies and toys for foster children yearly is not considered a duty, but an honor for Mrs. Hawkins. 

After caring for numerous foster children, being an inspiration for her family, and to the community as a whole, Lucille Hawkins has earned what a college degree could never offer, a Doctorate Degree in Loving people.  As a tribute to her unselfish and unyielding love, “The Lucille Hawkins Foundation” Chosen For A Purpose, Inc. was formed.

This foundation will carry Lucille’s legacy far into the future, providing the next generation of adopted and foster care children with a strong sense of self-esteem and the tools to understand they were CHOSEN for a purpose in life.
